Religion and Morality

What a waste of time. Look, if you want to see what happens to a culture that flushes religion down the toilet, all you have to do is look at West Europe today. All those countries are being overrun with millions of Muslims from Africa and the Middle East. Those Muslims have clearly let it be known that they intend to destroy western civilization by pushing weak and godless Eurpean men out of the picture and breed them out of existence. Without Christianity the people of Europe have totally lost themselves. All that stands in the way is the fact that the US is still a christian country…how foolish. Let's just drive out God and let Alah and his devilish minions do the same thing here. Ayn Rand's philosophy has much that is good, but her and now Yaron's endless obsession with atheism may yet be its end along with the collapse and defeat of the US by the victorious resurgence of Islam.

Any attempt to define morality outside ones own judgment is an attempt to evade the responsibility of thought. If someone (edit: or "something") else defines morality, one must simply obey and be "moral."

45:00 – a man risks a woman's life in a female-specific way when he penetrates her. so maybe the idea that a man should be prepared to commit for life before doing this to her body is a good one. you don't need religion to see that- just biology and a conscience.

and if he is prepared to commit..then he should prove it. by committing.

Ghate's comment on moderates being actually inconsistent in Q&A was eye opening.  Very interesting points in this talk!  Thanks for the upload.

Created by man for men who seek only answers, not explore them on their own. If there is a God, why is he such a bad communicator? Hundreds of popular different religions around the world, and none of the with a definitive answer. You'd think he's step in and tell everyone on Earth his intentions. But nope! This "faith" thing. Have fun with that thought. It's just complete historical senescence.

"The continued existence of a living organism, however, is conditional—and this is what gives rise to the possibility and need of values." It would be self-refuting and/or dishonest to claim this is not true while demanding an answer. It would be the same as saying, "I don't want to live but I also want an answer to why man needs values." If you don't want to live, then you don't need to do anything and you certainly don't need to find the answers to any questions like "why does man need values?"

Religion and morality clash if they are in the same sentence. Religion always sides with the power, regardless if that power abuses human rights or not.
There is an old saying: The church stands up for the oppressed only if it is oppressed. How true!

From Auinas "It is better that a man not believe in [the existence of] God than to belive on faith" Aquinas intruduced an element of Reason into the Church. Rand was an admirer of Aquinas. There was a debate going on in the Church that I became familiar with in the 1970's at Providence College. "Is a thing good because it is the will of God or is it the will of God because it is good?". The Dominicans seemed to adhere to the latter

According to Penn Jillette, quoting NPR, the two presidents who appealed to religion the most were Clinton and Carter

What is better, religion or the Secular Progressives. From a report I heard in 1957 or early 58. about "The Post-Existentialism Intelligentsia". Since Existentialism was "not providing  'answers', the intelligentisa is turning to Nihilism" Now which is worse: Religion, which Rand said in THE ROMANITC MANIFESTO is a "primitive form of philosophy" or Nihilism. Now two items from Rand "A man with principles, even the wrong principles, is better than a man with none" and "Soren Kierkegaard was better than the Existentialists, he was a religious man"

The matter is that we are looking at a 3-body problem. Even members of the Ayn Rand Institute were cheered by the victory of the specifically religious David Brat because it "fave the Establishment a black eye"

To all those allergic to critical comments, why don't you just disable comments? Telling people commenting on youtube that they're "rude" is missing the point. The point of commenting in youtube is to give an honest opinion, not to pretend that we're greeting people at a dinner party.

This guy is a great writer, and attrocious public speaker. Hideous. He should write and let someone else do the talking. I've seen him do several public speaches and it gets no better than bad, bad, bad.
