PJ Morton is a Christian but the point of the song is people who like to use God as an "excuse" for their poor behavior kind of like the saying "The devil made me do it" if you claim to follow a certain "religion" and you actually follow the spiritual text it often has more to do with being a good person who can benefit the world at large vs power and control that unfortunately most religions have been guilty of. So instead of you blaming religion or God for your misguided behavior take responsibility and actually learn your faith and why you believe what you believe. That's what the song means.
