Neil deGrasse Tyson: Atheist or Agnostic?
Articles

I’m often asked — and occasionally in an
accusatory way — “Are you atheist?” And it’s like, you know, the only “ist” I am is a scientist,
all right? I don’t associate with movements. I’m not an “ism.” I just – I think for myself.
The moment when someone attaches to a philosophy or a movement, then they assign all the baggage
and all the rest of the philosophy that goes with it to you, and when you want to have
a conversation they will assert that they already know everything important there is
to know about you because of that association. And that’s not the way to have a conversation.
I’m sorry. It’s not. I’d rather we explore each other’s ideas in real time rather than
assign a label to it and assert, you know, what’s going to happen in advance. So what people are really after is, what is
my stance on religion or spirituality or God? And I would say, if I find a word that came
closest it would be agnostic. Agnostic — the word dates from the 19th century — Huxley
— to refer to someone who doesn’t know but hasn’t yet really seen evidence for it but
is prepared to embrace the evidence if it’s there but if it’s not won’t be forced to have
to think something that is not otherwise supported. There are many atheists who say, “Well, all
agnostics are atheists.” Okay. I’m constantly claimed by atheists. I find this intriguing.
In fact, on my Wiki page — I didn’t create the Wiki page, others did, and I’m flattered
that people cared enough about my life to assemble it — and it said, “Neil deGrasse
is an atheist.” I said, “Well that’s not really true.” I said, “Neil deGrasse is an agnostic.”
I went back a week later. It said, “Neil deGrasse is an atheist.” — again within a week — and
I said, “What’s up with that?” and I said, “I have to word it a little differently.”
So I said, okay, “Neil deGrasse, widely claimed by atheists, is actually an agnostic.” And some will say, well, that’s — “You’re
not being fair to the fact that they’re actually the same thing.” No, they’re not the same
thing, and I’ll tell you why. Atheists I know who proudly wear the badge are active atheists.
They’re like in your face atheist and they want to change policies and they’re having
debates. I don’t have the time, the interest, the energy to do any of that. I’m a scientist.
I’m an educator. My goal is to get people thinking straight in the first place, just
get you to be curious about the natural world. That’s what I’m about. I’m not about any of
the rest of this. And it’s odd that the word atheist even exists.
I don’t play golf. Is there a word for non-golf players? Do non-golf players gather and strategize?
Do non-skiers have a word and come together and talk about the fact that they don’t ski?
I don’t—I can’t do that. I can’t gather around and talk about how much everybody in
the room doesn’t believe in God. I just don’t—I don’t have the energy for that, and so I . . . Agnostic
separates me from the conduct of atheists whether or not there is strong overlap between
the two categories, and at the end of the day I’d rather not be any category at all.

I’m looking for the rules to the Trumpian game of magic. So far, I’ve been able to discover that Trump thieves whatever I’m not discussing, where the alternatives belong to a paradigm that he keeps to himself. Can anyone teach me how to play Trump’s magic game?

Agnostic is what Is describe myself as well. People say you have to choose a side and if you want to be agnostic you have to put somthing in front of it like Athiest or Theist… No need for made up rules.

The natural world is great. But what about the study of the spiritual world? We should study that because that's where we will reside for eternity. This natural and physical life is very short.

Basically, he wants you to believe he's not biased. He holds certain philosophical presuppositions, but denies you access to them. In other words, he's a walking contradiction that thinks for himself, based on his bias. He's no different than anyone, though he wants you to believe he's above your judgement.

I don't believe in any god or spiritual things. I don't believe in the devil either. Yes, I get criticized by Christians and other religious beings. I could care less what other people believe in. To me, everything is just science and has scientific explanations. For example, Earth or human life. I do not believe that God created us or sacrificed himself for us (if that's what happened I never really cared to read the Bible or anything) sometimes I feel like I should be ashamed but it makes me feel realistic to believe in nothing if that makes sense. So basically, if there is no evidence then I don't care to waste my time.

Until some one can provide actual evidence of bio-genesis and the philosophic principle of a naturalistic ‘immovable mover’, no one should be swayed towards atheism.

Kant as a Christian already proofed that in a logical sense we should be agnostic about god. Choosing to believe or or not believe is hence an emotional choice. As someone puts it "I have balls I do not need god". If you are so COOL great. But well I have a heart, especially for others, I need a god 🙂

As an atheist, I don’t believe in any religious god for many reasons, but the theory and concept of a god existing is one plausible to me. Now, there are some flaws with it, such as “who created the creator?” However, it is certainly a theory. I don’t know if we will ever figure out if there is, but to me, devoting your life to trying to figure out the secrets of the beginning of everything is better than following a god that has never done anything and has no proof of existing besides their corresponding book.

On a fundamental level some atheists are not much different from some theists because at the most basic level some of them only know their own side of the story.

The atheist/theist debates are for people who are not smart enough to grasp the math required to form scientific theories. The truth is that we really don't know crap about the universe. All we have are a set of equations that model and predict experimental observations to certain degree of uncertainty.

“ the word ‘atheist’ shouldn’t even exist” – that’s the point. It is the default position. The burden of proof in on theists. End of story.

This is his intellectual way of saying i dont know, coz he cant prove if its positive or negative that a being called god does exist.
And regarding to the question whether hes a thiest or an athiest his short answer will be "i dont care" which i think in time will change, at some point when hes done playing with his brilliant mind he'll quenstion whats behind all that he saw

They are obviously not the same things. Atheists have already made up their minds and firmly believe that there is no God(s), Agnostics have not and are awaiting further evidence in order to make up their minds either way.

2:55 THANK YOU OMFG. NOBODY ever understands when I introduce this concept. Fuck people, man. Like read a gd book. This LIT MY FIRE. jFc.

Was asked what religion Maurice White was….and I reckoned he was likely an Agnostic…..The definition of which I was Taught Is……A person who acknowledges the existence of Higher Power without endorsing any particular religion, considering them nothing more than an affirmation of its existence.

We cannot prove or disprove the existence of a benevolent creative force that we can communicate with. Wonderful explanation by a great thinker and teacher. If there is a “God” he/she/it will always live between the particles of matter. The subject will always elude explanation. The life we have is the “miracle”, be thankful for that, and ponder what surrounds you right now.Go golf or ski and enjoy yourself.

Smart man. Atheists claim that Theists are jumping to conclusions by claiming that there is a creator, but they too are jumping in the opposite direction and claiming their using reason. Scientists have proven that the chances of the universe being formed by chaos yet still providing the right conditions for our existence are staggeringly low. So its not an incredibly huge leap to infer a guiding intelligence.

The term agnostic is slowing down the atheist movement. I used to call myself agnostic before I called myself an atheist. I used to be a christian. But I believe atheists are important in showing people why you shouldn't believe in objectively wrong things that are in the bible, koran etc. It's those doctrines that are objectively wrong, you can believe in a god, but as soon as that god conflicts with physical evidence and reasoned logic, then I have a problem with it. I proudly wear the badge of an atheist, and believe that it is important to show people why these doctrines have completely backwards and nonsensical ideas in them, especially with the advent of human knowledge and science. They are a danger to our modern society, despite having done some miniscule good things to get us where we are. i.e. setting up larger societies, but it's time to abandon them.

Nonsense, as a scientist he should know and value the meaning of words. Atheist means someone who doesn't believe in any particular God or Gods. It does NOT mean someone who claims there is no God or Gods. So, you are either a Theist or an Atheist. By the dictionary definition he is indeed an Atheist. All people claiming to be Agnostic are Atheists by default.

I always say. I don't know what made the world, universe, etc. But I'm not going to "pray to a god" that we don't even know if it exists.

I drift it depends on who's interacted with me most recently. If a heavily Christian person just told me I'm going to Hell because I don't believe or something like that I'm an atheist. If I'm applying for an atheist scholarship and they want me to be active in spreading it then I'm an agnostic.

I Love You Neil Ive Been Saying That I Was Agnostic For Decades, And No One Knew What That Was, I Love The Fact That You Even Said What You Said In This Video. Thank You

There is some power but it has no religion,it is god energy or whatever, but has no religion,I believe,we all are same

The Christian God Jesus is Satan the devil and he is not coming back… you've been deceived… Christians worship Satan with a human sacrifice of Jesus to Satan… repent accept Jahovah and do good works.

Is being a fool being a foolist? No, it isn't an 'ism'. The correct word is 'foolish'. A fool is foolish. Thanks, Neil.

The fool says in his heart, There is no God. – Psalms 14:1-3

Everyone knows a Creator God exists: the evidence is clearly perceived in the creation (DNA prescriptive code, the Cosmological Constant, etc.)

Romans 1:18-22 (KJV) For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:

Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,

Atheists' High Priest just destroyed their Raison D'etre. Then disowned them. How utterly pathetic to repeatedly change his Wiki page. Evidence of the fraudulent nature of such a sorry group of incels. When your entire identity and philosophy of life is predicated on what you don't believe… you need help. Seriously who runs around telling people what they don't believe in.

Science Versus Religion; Additive Numeration, and Carmen de Algorismo; A Church of Science & Engineering
Higher education is not a course in ethics. There is a common misunderstanding by the uneducated or blue-collar criminal that higher education is a bland ethics course…be prepared!!!! I don't see how staying highly informed and sharp and having the best tools constitutes ethics. If you want ethics there is a lifelong religious devotion to it with Jesus.
Embracing the philosophical arguments instead of the applied industries…
Wycliffe/ Erasmus, St. Aquinas/ St. Francis, Pythagoras/ Archimedes- Monad/ Zero, Empedocles/ Democritus/ Heraclitus…Dawkins/ Darwin, Hawkins/ Cox/ Tyson/ Einstein…others like transubstantiation/ transmutation/ the Occult and witchcraft/ exorcism/ mysticism/ Pliny the Elder / Agrippa/ Trismegistus, whatever with those…
Science will win.
The troublemakers of science versus the troublemakers of the militia versus the moral stand-off against the group. As we enter an economic and informational era and not one of the kings, queens, legal issues, and wars, what we need is a church of science and engineering that can perform the devotional tasks and deal with extemporaneous literature and secrecy; one that catalogs and performs strange acts like engineering exorcisms and stigmata; one for moneyless penance and scribes. We need a tragic example of scientific laws to be its prince; one who stands up to for its ethics and is punished; one who is not quite hip to its vast traditions…one that not an old theocracy like Freemasonry and is more encompassing…one that has and records a history of heroes and tragic villains…

Long story short: He doesn’t give a fuck on wasting time about a “thing” living in the clouds looking at us and angels existing.

I usually really enjoy Neil Degrasse Tyson's view on the universe, but his golf analogy is actually dangerous. Non golf players are not called devil worshippers, they're not the least trusted group in America, they're not shunned from their communities for not believing in the greatness of Tiger Woods. They're not hated for being gay, or trans, or women. Not on a massive, policy changing way in any case. Comparing the two is like comparing Hitler to a squirrel.

The atheist label is important. Non-golfer is not. Get that out of your heads right now, because people suffer and die every year because people don't understand the distinction. Atheism is necessary, but I hope I speak for a lot of other atheists when I say that ultimately, we'd like the term to lose its value. We just have to get to a point where we aren't called satanists and baby rib eating monsters for our convictions.

The title draws a false dichotomy: agnosticism addresses knowledge whereas theism and atheism address belief. NDT claims that the atheists he knows are, “ […] active atheists. They’re like, in your face atheists and they wanna change policies and they’re having debates.” 2:28–2:36 Which is fine. The problem is, he holds this as the reason why he doesn’t accept the label while knowing full well that most atheists are not like that. This is a strawman fallacy. Just goes to show, even the cleverest among us think fallaciously sometimes.

We don’t often get to choose our labels. If you adopt a certain position on something, there’s usually already a word to describe that position. NDT doesn’t believe in a god or gods and that makes him an atheist – whether he likes it or not. (We’re all agnostic because none of us know for sure either way, at least with some gods.) He’s a hero of mine but I think he should grow some balls on this one. There are people who accept their labels in principle and in public but keep their thoughts on it private. NDT could simply do that. Get over “the baggage” already, Neil.

Are we Fucking CODED BRUH? ATTRACTIONS. THEY CODED OUR ATTEACTIONS. OH
RIGHT.
P ERROR FECT. WE ASKED THEM TO DO B5 HAT.

Agnostic viewpoint: Anything and almost everything is possible after death

Atheist: Nothing happens when you die whatsoever. Your brain simply turns back to soil.

I think being agnostic makes more sense honestly if you’re trying to be scientific. Atheism seems like a cult religion.

I did not like Liberalism. The catholic church allows for individual liberty. You just have to go to church on holy the sabboth day. I always forgive people. Girls can sin just as much as Men can. If your father or mother sin and you don't honor them is that a sin? I know how to categorize sins. I liked the scene in Billy Madison where he apologizes. I really do hate war. Make peace not war.

I don't have the time, energy to do any of that. I don't have the time to be an electrician. I wasted so much money. I don't like talking about my dreams. I am 28 years old.

The bible is no mere story it is intricately woven by a higher intelligence.
An example is in the lineage which most of us skips over because it seems utterly boring. Who cares who begat whom?  Adam begat Seth, who begat Enosh..Kenan.. Mahalalel, Jared..Enoch..Methuselah..Lamech..Noah.  – it’s just a list of names and we skip over it. But each name has a meaning. Adam(man) Seth (appointed) Enosh (mortal) Kenan (sorrow, but) Mahalalel (the blessed God) Jared(shall come down) Enoch (teaching) Methuselah (his death shall bring) Lamech (the despairing) Noah
(comfort and Rest)
So within the lineage of the first men before the flood, we have a message which is completely Old testament jewish – Man is appointed mortal sorrow, but, the blessed God shall come down teaching and his death shall bring the despairing comfort and rest.
(superman fans will recognize EL, which was nicked from Jewish culture – MahalalEL)
These meanings are intertwined with the first appearance of the person. Eve is appointed another son. Therefore Seth means appointed. Lamech is a word we still use today – lamentation.(despairing-weeping)
Every name,  man or place name, in the bible has a meaning. Over the years I’ve debated with atheists and have tried to get them to see the hidden depths in the bible. Their minds are so polluted by popular culture that they compare the bible to Harry Potter? (hence the superman reference, it’s the level of their attention span)
Harry Potter is the latest flash in the pan piece of crap. It will be forgotten over time. How do I know this? Because the author of
Harry Potter has swiped all her ideas from other children’s books. I grew up in the UK and recognize the characters in her films. The phoenix and the carpet (order of the phoenix) . Harry Potter (troll) Michael Moriarty and Noah Hathaway both played a character called Harry Potter, in a house, with a troll, a magical world etc. JK has condensed four children books/tv shows of my youth into each of her books and films. Abbot and Costello did the same thing, they had the mummy, Frankenstein, werewolf and Dracula in one film. It’s constant special effects that please the imbecile. Growing up in the UK the budget of tv shows made it impossible to have more than one special effect in an episode. So it was rationed. In Harry potter or Transformers or any film today they can throw special effects at you constantly. I went to the cinema in 1977? To watch Spiderman with Nicholas Hammond. The special effects were dire. We still loved the film but it was like Spiderman-Quincy. Today they do it seamlessly and that is dangerous. When they can show impossible things at the drop of a hat. They make it absurd. A throw away. Now we look at Jesus and say, so what he turned it into wine, Harry Potter did that in his film. We mix up reality with fantasy. There was no cinema in Israel in 32 AD. it was reality. People are not idiots because they lived in a poorer culture. Lived in the country instead of a city. They saw the dead coming back to life. This was a game changer. Jesus has sown seed and the crops have to grow. Heaven would be empty if he took a few thousand to heaven. Arthur C Clark once said that a hundred billion people
have lived on earth, I’m not sure about that figure?  Seems very large. But I know from reading the bible that few make it to heaven. The reason they don’t get there is not because they were Good or Bad. God views us as all Bad. In his estimation we
are very selfish. I agree. Paul the apostle also agrees. We try to do good and end up doing bad. Our intentions fail. The world is corrupt and we live in it. We cannot be served by God while we are here. God ruling over corruption is not his plane. His plan is that we separate ourselves from corruption by confessing our sins and making a alliance with God. To set our seal on him. To give ourselves over to him. By TRUSTING HIM.  God lost Adam’s trust when he disobeyed him. He believed The serpent
over God. Accepting the serpent’s authority over God’s authority. He lost his world and he has been at war with Satan on earth over 6000 years trying to get it back. Good and evil looking for dominance on earth. It is swings and roundabouts. We beat back Hitler and gained some rights, but they slowly take those rights off us. They nibble away at our wins and we have to go to war
again.
This is our life cycle on earth. Two steps forward and one step back. We all are made of flesh and we have a soul. But something is missing. The spirit of God.
When we understand and recognize Jesus as the messiah, when we pray that he comes into our lives. He sends us the Holy spirit ti be part of us. It teaches us about Jesus and we are unified with Christ in heaven. We are still here on earth but we also are in heaven. We are completed. We cannot lose our place in heaven. Nothing Satan can do can draw you away from Jesus. Satan has lost a customer. Until we defect to Jesus we are incomplete – we remain earth dwellers. We will never know heaven. Jesus is our middleman. He gets us into heaven. He’s the man.  You cannot argue yourself into heaven and you cannot bribe your way in with good deeds. Even if you invent a cure for all cancers. You cannot be allowed into heaven with an attitude of pride. I did this… I am that.  Only Grace (an undeserved gift – you do not deserve it, but you get it) This is God’s way. God could give someone the cure for cancer. God could make our world advanced in a moment. But he would be empowering monsters. He sees what we do with a little and knows what we would do with a lot. God does not need us, we need him. He can create another world and populate it with intelligent puppets but he wants to make a family who love him and who want him. He wants to love us. How can you love someone who hates you? You cannot force people into heaven and make them prisoners of love, It
has to be mutual. God asks for those that are tired and weary who want away from this world to come to him. Rest in him. He’s not asking for the prideful and the go getters. If a billion dollars cannot satisfy you? What would.
My idolatry is films on tv. It’s what competes with my time with God. I get distracted by stories and tales. I like the old Black and white movies and also the modern films. Over fifty years I’ve seen too much. Recently in the last ten years there has been a shift into the occult more in mainstream movies. The superhero films are borrowing from the bible. The avengers have fought Thanos, who vanished the population(rapture)  and they used a time machine and a quantum computer (infinity) to resolve it all. The language is geared towards the bible, Jesus is mentioned in the film. ‘who is your master?” small digs are inserted into almost all big budget films today. Batman vs Superman is the most loaded script I’ve seen in years. It’s all bible related. This is not a coincidence. Israel has been a nation on earth for the last 72 years. The bible tells it’s readers that the end times, latter days egins when the jews are drawn back into their holy land from ALL nations. Yes it was a decision of men that it should happen, but it’s men controlled by God and Lucifer. We are men caught between vast forces. The apex point is approaching and I think everyone knows it’s coming. The tv shows, the films, have been dropping various hints over a decade that something is coming. Satan is trying to control the narrative. He is trying to spin what is happening to his advantage. The world economy is deliberately contracting and forcing people into action on the streets. The world’s climate has been tampered with by economic forces. It has
nothing to do with recycling? 15 billion tonnes of sand is stolen yearly – dredged away from the ocean floors, lakes, rivers, etc. This causes flooding everywhere. It changes the nature of the cycle, it removes natural barriers, the sand round the ice is dredged away and the ice comes into contact with the water and it melts. It’s all explainable. Sand is the third most used commodity on earth. It’s in everything from bathroom tiles to concrete in roads and buildings. We move it inland to building sites and the waters chase it inland. You removed nature. If you take out a forest the wind gets free reign. This is simple. Over the last 150 years we have built thousands of dams inland that block new sand from reaching the coasts.
It’s all economical damage by corporations. Who are trying to shift the blame to the people. Please ‘save the world’  – yes , stop building sky scrapers. Stop the sand thieves.  The waters rise because we have removed the natural sand barriers.
We accept lies, everyday. From false authorities and believe in flawed men. In stead of trusting God. No man on earth has created a world, a cosmos. Yet we trust in men like Hitler and Churchill?  Men steeped in evil. Oh yes Hitler was more
evil but by how much? I believe all authority on this world is corrupted. I cannot see any nation today that is not captured. In the past some nations has idealistic intentions. Today I cannot see any. It’s all about economics and budgets and the little man gets nothing. Warren Buffet said – there’s class  warfare, all right, but it’s my class, the rich class, that’s making war and we
are winning. (Everything for me and nothing for you.)
We are heading towards an apex point. The end of illusions. The truth is approaching the Greek word is the apocalypse, the revealing.  This is why mental health rates have risen 600 percent in ten years. we fear anxious. We are being made fearful. Decadence is at a high as poor people scramble to food banks in healthy nations.

If golfers were trying to inflict the rules of golf upon the general populace, there would almost definitely be a group of agolfers, or non-golfers, or anti-golfers. There is nothing surprising about the existence of self-identified atheists in America. Here in the UK it's different. Religion is a quiet thing mostly, even for the devout. So you simply don't find the average person ever identifying themselves with the atheist label.

What a tremendous answer to a rather pointless question! Question everything of course. Learn always. It is very odd that these words exist! Please don’t categorize or label me or anyone else either when possible. Well said.

I don’t like atheists! heated debate between pastor/psychotherapist/atheist on college campus https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XNOep8JXFo&t=638s

Theism and atheism and christianity and islam and gnostic and agnostic are not the truth . The truth is the unity in impartiality . Favouritism creaties conflicts . Separatism is wrong it breeds violence . Youtube Jiddu Krishnamurti talks at the united nations 1985 . GREAT speech . Carpe diem . Enjoy calmly . Seize the day in a healthy way . Mindfulness .

Smart man,too bad not everyone thinks like him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That would have avoid LOTS of religious wars and religious tortures and killings throughout history

Agnosticism is almost always just a ploy. Just like the atheist, agnostics want to live their lives as they choose and not under the authority of any god, but for social reasons they don''t want to be identified as atheist. Agnosticism is much more socially acceptable than is atheism, for example. So the agnostic claims to be open to evidence but, of course, there will never be sufficient evidence and while they wait for more evidence to be placed at their feet, they live the life they choose.

why would i want to believe anything if i'm forever precluded to believe its opposite ? agnosticism is the worst to me, because how would i trust my eyes and senses to deliver the truth when i come across "it" ? i mean how an agnostic knows he really is what he says he is?

He begins by saying that he doesn't like associating with a movement, and that people need to listen to each other's ideas in real time. News Flash: 90 percent of all people need to be told what to say by others because they are incapable of originating a single thought. That is the very reason we have movements. There is more to the universe than can be explained by the current state of scientific comprehension. The idea of a person-like being who created us to observe our behavior and determine whether to eternally torture our souls, seems kind of perverted. Christians tell you that if you don't believe all their BS that you are therefore an atheist. They are wrong, but that doesn't mean there is nothing, it just means that whatever does exist, Christians would be far too stupid to understand it.

I'm Agnostic, I believe that Atheists, the ones who say they know for a fact there is no God, are just as arrogant as Theists who say they know for a fact there is one.

I would describe myself as an agnostic atheist. I’m always very skeptical and am always wondering, but feel that at the end of the day heaven and god isn’t real. However I’m open to anything.

I’ve had many conversations with friends, some saying my dad who committed suicide when I was 9 would go to hell because he was atheist. Was I offended? No, because I asked the question, expecting an honest answer. And I didn’t debate at all. I listened to so many peoples stories of what they believe, people from Christians to Bahai etc, some online some irl, and let them say their entire story, not debating them once.

A person should always do this. Don’t debate, listen. If you debate you won’t learn anything. If you listen however, you will gain much knowledge potentially lost.

Man, I love Neil. Proudly representing a non-community but at the same time being as logical as he can be. I’m proud to be an Agnostic

An atheist is someone who isn't convinced that there is a God, so if Neil isn't a theist or a deist, then he is an atheist. Atheism isn't a belief, by the way.

There is a good reason "atheism" is a word, it's because most people are theists, it's unusual to be a non-theist/atheist.

Those atheists who are claiming brilliant people to their side so that they can be viewed as a 'brilliant' society. pathetic.

This seems so much better than an earlier impression I had of Neil Tyson, where he espoused (a few years ago) where we should be celebrating Newton rather than Jesus at Christmas. He seemed to me to be mixing the proverbial apples with oranges. But this is way more coherent, though it does not hurt that in terms of Science, I tend to an atheist' point of view (no need of a god), whereas my own, say metaphysical thoughts, tend rather towards the agnostic. I do see the posting date for this video, but I think I will take this probably first approach as the best, from Dr. Tyson

This just show the Power that religion still has! Someone like NDT feels the need to say that he does NOT call himself an Atheist. I bet he gets alot of Hate from religious people, so he feels the need to say he isn't atheist. Fact is, he does NOT believe in a god. The MAIN Sad point here is, he feels the need to separate himself from the Sane group of people that do not believe in a god. The sad world we live in……..
But don't take my word for it, read some of his Great Quotes and you tell me —

“Science is a Philosophy of Discovery; “Intelligent Design” is a Philosophy of Ignorance.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson
“Imagine a world in which we are all enlightened by objective truths rather than offended by them.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson
"If God is all-powerful, he cannot be all good. And if he is all good, he cannot be all-powerful.” – Neil deGrasse Tyson
"Every description of God that I've heard holds God to be all-powerful and all-good, and then I look around and I see a tsunami that killed a quarter million people in Indonesia, an earthquake that killed a quarter million people in Haiti, and I see earthquakes and tornadoes and disease, childhood leukemia. I see all of this and I say 'I do not see evidence of both of those being true simultaneously. If there is a God, the God is either not all-powerful or not all-good. He can't be both." – Neil deGrasse Tyson
“God is an ever receding pocket of scientific ignorance…….that's getting smaller and smaller and smaller as time moves on” — Neil deGrasse Tyson, he said this is true if your claim for a god is “well, you can't explain how XXXX works, so God must have done it!”

He sees no Real Evidence for a 'god', therefor he does not believe in a 'god'. That is an Atheist.

Agnostic r truely in search of truth rest r believers they have reached to a conclusion they have no space for discovery

As a substitute teacher, I had to show one of Neil's vids about how humans evolved from astroids containing life. Call him a 'scientist' if you will, but I think is really evil to present this info to kids as if it were a fact. Just as Shakespeare gets credit for Romeo and Juliet, so God gets the glory for what He created.
I suggest to the evolutionists that they as much about human origins as I know the backside of the moon! Yet, Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
