Jesus Film Now in Sign Language
Deaf Missions, is a global organization that works to spread the Word of God and story for Jesus amongst the Deaf. They have announced that they are planning on producing a film about Jesus’ birth and his life in American Sign Language. According to the organisation, the movie will showcase the story of Jesus in ASL to about 70 million which is 7 crore deaf people worldwide. They will watch the movies on TV & theatres and it will be very useful for them. Chad Entinger who works with Deaf Missions said that, The language of the heart is related to a Deaf person’s identity. Since Sign Language is a Deaf person’s language they connect it with their identity. In the same way when Jesus’ story and the word of God is spread through spoken languages, hearing people can easily connect with it. Now the same movie will be made in sign language. Now when Deaf individuals see the characters conversing in sign language, they will connect and get inspired. This is why he called it ‘Heart language’. Many Deaf assume that God is only for hearing people. Because Churches use all resources to spread information about Jesus among the Hearing. This is why Jesus’ story will be made into a movie in sign language. When they watch the movie, the will connect to the story. It tells the Deaf community that they matter to not just Christians, but to God. They believe that it wasn’t the mission who came up with the idea to make a movie. It was God’s idea so that Deaf can benefit. Chad also said that, there are still many countries that do not have Bible translations in their local sign languages. He hopes the Jesus Movie will help connect people and encourage them to translate Bible in their own sign languages. Chad also hopes that the Deaf community will be excited to watch the movie. The Jesus movie will be ready in 3-4 years. The movie is under production. They are currently looking for funds.
