How to Live in Divine Health

How to Live in Divine Health

KENNETH: Don’t be like a–like
an animal that has to have a bit put in your mouth. I’m ready, I
am willing and obedient. I want to follow the
Word. Glory to God. (Singing) I know my God
has made the way for me. I know my God has
made the way for me. ANNOUNCER: Build your faith
today on the Believer’s Voice of Victory as Kenneth and Gloria
Copeland share a message on how to apply God’s Word to live in
divine health. Now let’s join them from their prayer
cabin in Southwest Arkansas. Here are
Kenneth and Gloria. KENNETH: Hello, everybody.
Welcome to the Believer’s Voice of Victory broadcast
Friday’s edition. Glory to God. Father, we thank
You today– GLORIA: Thank You, Lord. KENNETH: –for Your Word.
Thank You, Lord Jesus, for being our healer. We open our eyes. We
open our ears. GLORIA: Yes, Lord. KENNETH: We open our
hearts to hear from heaven and receive revelation, praise God,
of the Word, revelation of life, by faith in this earth receiving
divine health– GLORIA: Thank You, Lord. We take it. KENNETH:
–in Jesus’ name. Amen. GLORIA: Amen. KENNETH: Glory to God.
GLORIA: Praise God. KENNETH: Gloria, I was thinking there
when we were praying. You know, there’s a difference between
living in divine health, which is God’s–that’s God’s plan.
GLORIA: That’s the best. KENNETH: He didn’t plan for you
to just get sick and get healed and get sick and get healed.
GLORIA: No, no, no. KENNETH: He intended for you to walk in His
ways, walk in His statutes, walk in His commandments, walking by
faith, walking in the law of love– GLORIA: Yes, yes, yes.
KENNETH: –and don’t get sick in the first place. GLORIA: That’s
right. That’s exactly right. KENNETH: Amen. Most people don’t
believe that you can do that. Now, I will say this, the
whole–there’s a difference between being healed and being
well. You and I are well. GLORIA: We stay well. KENNETH:
We–we don’t have any sickness or disease in our bodies. And
any kind of a symptom comes along, we just attack the thing.
GLORIA: That’s right. KENNETH: Right now, there’s been times on
this– GLORIA: We use the name on it– KENNETH: There’s been
times– GLORIA: –the name of Jesus. KENNETH: –that I fooled
around and didn’t take care of business and got sick, but
that’s my fault. But being well–when a person decides to
be well– GLORIA: Or healthy. KENNETH: Yeah. GLORIA: That’s
another word. KENNETH: To be well, that covers the–all of
wellness, which you’re going to have to take your diet into
consideration. GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: You’re going to have to
take exercise into consideration. I–and you do
this by making a decision. The decision is yours, but you make
that decision, and then you get–like you said, you’ve got
to pay attention. You have to pay attention to the Word. You
have to pay attention to everything God said in here
about everything. GLORIA: Obedience. KENNETH: Obedience to
it. GLORIA: Yeah, that’s right. KENNETH: Now, when you do that,
and you begin to renew your mind to it, you’re not looking at
what it takes away from you, you’re looking what it adds to
you. GLORIA: Somebody might think, “Well, that’s too hard.”
No, it’s easy. It’s easy– KENNETH: Oh, yeah. GLORIA: –to
stay well. KENNETH: What’s– GLORIA: It’s easy on the Word of
God. KENNETH: You’re crucifying the flesh. GLORIA: Yeah.
KENNETH: It’s the flesh that screams and hollers and wants,
you know, just to eat anything it can think about. GLORIA:
Donuts. KENNETH: Yeah. But you have to put the thing down, that
is if you want to be well and live long on the earth. Now, you
get to that place where you’re–read the 5th chapter of
the book of Hebrews. Your body can be trained and exercised to
know the difference between good and evil. It’s not always going
to be the–just the doggy thing unless you just let it be. But
right now–I mean, there was a time when, man, I couldn’t do
without cigarettes. I didn’t want them. I hated them. I’d
throw them out the window and then stop, go back, and digged
around the weeds and get them. Feel like a fool. I was a fool.
GLORIA: Mm. KENNETH: But, now my body’s repelled by that. Just
the smell of it, it just turns me off. Because why? I’ve been
delivered from it. GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: My mind has been
renewed. You can–you can do that way with food. And I don’t
take the time to go into that, but it– GLORIA: With the wrong
food. KENNETH: The wrong kind of food. GLORIA: The wrong food.
You don’t have to do without food– KENNETH: No. GLORIA:
–just wrong food. KENNETH: But the wrong kind of stuff. GLORIA:
Yeah. KENNETH: I–Lord–I said, “Lord, I don’t understand this.”
I mean, I weighed 245 pounds at this time. “I just don’t
understand that. I mean, You–I know you delivered me from
smoking. You delivered me from drinking, but how are You going
to deliver me from food? Ahh.” GLORIA: You big baby. KENNETH:
“I want food.” (Both Laugh) And I heard the Lord say, “Kenneth.”
Thank God He doesn’t get disgusted with us. He’s–
GLORIA: He’s extraordinarily patient, the Bible says.
KENNETH: Oh, He is. He said, “I didn’t deliver you from
breathing. I delivered you from breathing smoke. I didn’t
deliver you from eating.” GLORIA: Uh-huh. KENNETH: “I
delivered you from eating–I didn’t deliver you from
drinking. I delivered you from drinking alcohol. Now, I’m not
going to deliver you from eating. I’m going to deliver you
from eating sugar.” Hallelujah! (Laughs) Amen. And it–but
that’s the process, see. That’s what I wanted to get across to
you, to be well. Okay. Today, Gloria–now, yesterday, we
talked about the Syrophoenician woman, the fact that she was not
a Jew. But now–remember now–let me remind you a couple
of things here. She worshipped Him. She knew who He was. She
called him “Son of David,” or called Him “Messiah.” She had no
pride. She humbled herself. She couldn’t be offended. She was
not touchy. He called her–He called her and called her
daughter “dogs.” Touchy people get mad. Touchy people are
unteachable. Touchy people–if you’re unteachable, you’re
uncorrectable. So no correction, no direction; no protection, no
perfection. Psalm 32:9, “Don’t be like a horse.” Let’s do it
from the Amplified. “Be not like the horse or the mule, which
lack understanding, which must have their mouths held firm with
a bit and bridle, or else they won’t–they won’t obey.” Don’t
be like an animal that has to have a bit put in your mouth. “I
am–I am willing and obedient.” GLORIA: Yes, amen. KENNETH: “I
want to follow the Word.” Glory to God. GLORIA: Me, too.
KENNETH: Now, He said, “Lady, for that saying, your daughter’s
healed.” Now, I want to know the difference between that and the
centurion’s servant. That centurion was Roman. He wasn’t a
Jew. Why didn’t Jesus call him a dog? That’s interesting, isn’t
it? Now, here–here’s a Roman and a Syrophoenician woman. All
right. Let’s find out. Let’s go to Matthew 8:5 and Luke 7:1. All
right, Matthew 8:5, “When Jesus was entered into Capernaum,”
which was His hometown, by the way, “there came unto him a
centurion, beseeching him, saying, Lord, my servant lieth
at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented.” Now, I
want you to listen to Jesus. “I will–” Say, “I will.” What did
He tell the leper, Gloria? He said, “I know you can if You
will.” He said, “I will.” GLORIA: I will. KENNETH: One
translation says, “Of course I will.” “I will come and heal
him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that
thou should come under my roof.” “I’m not a Jew. I know I’m not a
Jew. I’m not worthy that you come under my roof.” “But speak
the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man
under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man,
Go, and he goes; to another, Come, and he comes; and to my
servant, Do this, and he does it. When Jesus heard it, he
marvelled, and said unto them that followed, Verily I say unto
you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And I
say unto you,” and so forth and so on. Now then, let’s go over
to the book of Luke 7:1. Luke 7:1, “Now when he had ended all
his sayings, in the audience of the people, he entered into
Capernaum,” or He went home. “And a certain centurion’s
servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.”
Now, remember, Luke is a physician. GLORIA: Yeah.
KENNETH: He didn’t say he was sick. He said he’s ready to die.
GLORIA: That was his diagnosis. KENNETH: “Yeah, this man–this
man’s on his deathbed.” “When he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him
the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would
come and heal his servant. And when they came to Jesus, they
besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy–” Now,
the–ha-ha-ha. The centurion said, “I’m not worthy that you
come under my roof.” “I’m a Jew.” He–so he knew something,
didn’t he? GLORIA: Mm-hmm. KENNETH: He knew something about
the Word. Well, so did she. She called Him “Messiah,” the
Syrophoenician woman. GLORIA: Yeah, mm-hmm. KENNETH: They
said, “He is worthy for whom he should do this: he loveth our
nation, and he hath built us a synagogue. And when Jesus went
with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the
centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble
not thyself: for I’m not worthy that thou shouldest enter under
my roof: wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come
unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed.
For I also am a man set under authority, having under me
soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goes; to another,
Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he does
it. And Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and
turned him about, and said to the people that followed, I say
unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”
Now then, what–Gloria, what is the difference–neither one of
them’s Jews. Syrophoenician woman’s not a Jew. Jesus called
her a dog. He’s–He’s got to get faith out of her. He’s got to
have a legal reason. Now, after He–after He goes to the cross,
raised from the dead– GLORIA: He has to have something to work
with. KENNETH: Yeah. But after the cross– GLORIA: Yeah.
KENNETH: –I mean, that’s wiped out. But now, they didn’t know
it for 10 years after the day of Pentecost before they found out
a Gentile could even be saved because they were still under
this mindset. Now, I’ll–let me show you the difference. They
said it. “He is worthy for whom he should do this: he loveth our
nation.” Aha. Okay. Remember what God said to Abraham?
GLORIA: “Those that bless you–” KENNETH: He said, “I’m going to
make you a blessing. The whole earth will be blessed by you.”
GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: And He said, “They that bless you, I
will bless.” Glory to God. There was the reason why He could step
right in– GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: –legally– GLORIA:
Mm-hmm. KENNETH: –and minister to this centurion’s servant–
GLORIA: Praise God. KENNETH: –which ministered to the
centurion greatly. GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: But, now, wait a
minute, the centurion’s servant was probably a Roman. I don’t
know that, but I don’t know that he wasn’t. I would expect,
though, that the centurion’s servant was a soldier of low
rank. He wasn’t hiring people outside his house to come in.
He’s a centurion. He’s an officer. So he blessed Israel,
built a synagogue. Well, now, the man built a synagogue. Don’t
you expect he probably spent some time in that synagogue?
GLORIA: I would think. KENNETH: You want me to give you a
little–a little side thing here that’ll thrill you? GLORIA: Do
it. KENNETH: You remember Jairus was ruler of the synagogue.
–Capernaum. KENNETH: This was in Capernaum. GLORIA: Well, it
was. KENNETH: That was the synagogue where Jairus was
ruler–or one of the rulers. GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: Ha-ha-ha.
GLORIA: How about that? KENNETH: This is also Jesus’ hometown.
GLORIA: Yes. KENNETH: That synagogue that he built–
GLORIA: That Jairus built? KENNETH: No, that that centurion
built– GLORIA: Oh. KENNETH: –where Jairus is ruler of the
synagogue– GLORIA: Centurion built it. KENNETH: –it was just
around the corner from Jesus’ house. GLORIA: Well, how about
that? KENNETH: Oh, now we’re catching up with something here.
Oh, yeah, glory to God. This blessed Jesus because it was His
hometown synagogue. He taught in that synagogue. He knew Jairus
personally. That–He–glory to– GLORIA: That’s awesome. KENNETH:
I’ve got goosebumps running up and down my arm. My–glory to
God. GLORIA: Praise God. KENNETH: That’ll–that’ll thrill
anybody that’s got any sense. GLORIA: Mm-hmm. KENNETH:
Ha-ha-ha. Can you see the difference, though? Now, Jesus
was just as willing where that Syrophoenician woman’s daughter
was concerned–He’s just as willing to heal her, but He had
to have a legal pathway to do it. Here the path was wide open
because this man had chosen to bless the seed of Abraham, and
He blessed Jesus– GLORIA: Praise God. KENNETH: –by the
synagogue that–right there in Jesus’ hometown. GLORIA: We want
to keep the path wide open. KENNETH: Yes, we do. And
that’s–and that’s one of the things that I wanted to bring up
here, that– GLORIA: Faith keeps the path wide open. KENNETH: Why
then did Jesus–let’s look at it again. Why did He say, “I have
not found so great faith, no, not in Israel?” This man–
GLORIA: I would say– KENNETH: The great faith–it’s the
greatest faith there is today. Faith in the Word of God with no
other evidence needed. “I need no proof. You said it, I’ll
believe it. Whatever You say, I know will come to pass.” Glory
to God. GLORIA: Say it in a word. KENNETH: Say it in a word.
Now, I want to go–I want to go into that a little bit. GLORIA:
Think about how our lives changed when we began to say.
KENNETH: You know, we were–you talked about that right after
our first broadcast today between tapings, the time that
you and I were in one of Brother Hagin’s meetings, this is back
in 19–right about 1968 or ’69. ’68, I think, or it might have
maybe even been in the tail end of ’67, right at the very first
year we went. GLORIA: Mm-hmm, probably so. KENNETH: We were in
his meeting, and he said, “Now, all–” He–and, of course, he
preached on the authority of the Word of God. “Everyone that
would pray this prayer with me, stand to your feet.” Of course,
we’d leap to our feet. He–and he prayed the prayer and led us
in the prayer. And what we prayed was this: “Whatever we
see in Your Word, we put Your Word first place in our lives.”
Now, that’s what that centurion did. He said–he said, “I
recognize authority when I see it. I’m a man under authority.”
GLORIA: Yeah, that’s right. KENNETH: “I see that.”
“Whatever–we put Your Word first place in our life. Your
Word is final authority, and when we see it, and we see what
it’s saying to us–” GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: “–we’ll do it.
We will act on that Word.” And later, we came–we came to this,
that–and I’ll just lead you in it. “I put Your Word–” GLORIA:
You want me to say that? KENNETH: Yeah. GLORIA: I put
Your Word– KENNETH: “–first place–” (Gloria Repeats)
“–final authority in my life. I will not attempt to change Your
Word to fit my lifestyle. I will change my lifestyle to fit Your
Word.” Amen. GLORIA: That is a formula for victory. KENNETH:
Yeah, it is. GLORIA: It is. KENNETH: Now–and, you know,
that’s what religious people try to do. GLORIA: Faith is the
victory. KENNETH: “Well, now, you see, God really didn’t mean
it when He said that. He–what He really meant–” No, He meant
what He said. GLORIA: A lot of people didn’t think He meant to
stay out of debt. KENNETH: Well, now, and let me–let me show you
something about that, Romans 13. The day we found that, which was
some time after we–in fact, we were a meeting–in a meeting in
Forth Worth. We were staying in my mother and dad’s home there,
and I read down here, Romans 13:8, “Owe no man anything but
to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled
the law.” GLORIA: And we had decided that we’d– KENNETH: And
I saw that– GLORIA: –do what we saw. KENNETH: –and I
thought–and I thought, “What?” And I thought, “Well–” GLORIA:
“Surely, that doesn’t mean that.” KENNETH: Here I’m trying
to change it. I thought, “Well, I’ll–here, I’ll get the
Amplified.” And it said, “Stay out of debt.” I called Gloria in
there, and I said, “Look at this.” GLORIA: Mm. KENNETH:
Because, I mean, there went my airplane right out. GLORIA: My
house, your airplane. KENNETH: I can’t borrow the money to get
it. GLORIA: Yep. KENNETH: And she looked at me, and her
feathers fell. I’m standing here with my Bible like this,
standing in the middle of the bedroom floor. She said, “If–if
that’s what the Book says, that’s what we’re going to do.”
GLORIA: What year would that have been? KENNETH: 1960–right
at the first part of 1968. Now, you can’t build a doctrine on
one scripture. And when you begin to study this, that’s not
referring to money. But go over to the curse of the law, and
you’ll find out that debt is part of the curse. You become
servant of the lender– GLORIA: Yeah. KENNETH: –attached to
them by covenant. And you’ll be the tail and not the head. The
Scripture says you’ll–and He said this: “You’ll lend to many
and borrow from none.” Well, that’s finished it. Praise God.
And we are out of time. GLORIA: Wow. I thought you were going to
say, “out of debt.” KENNETH: Hey–we are. (Both Laugh) That
woman. Ha-ha-ha. Thank You, Jesus. Yeah, we are out of debt.
Gloria and I’ll be back. GLORIA: For many years. And there’s
another thing to that: We’re staying out. KENNETH: We ain’t
going–ha-ha-ha. GLORIA: That’s right. KENNETH: We’ll be
back in just a moment. ANNOUNCER: We hope you enjoyed
today’s teaching from Kenneth Copeland Ministries. And
remember Jesus is Lord.
